As the cliché goes, the first school starts at home. Your little one depends on you, first and foremost to give them the building block of who they will become. For this reason, it's good to start off on the right foot. From the moment you learn you're pregnant, you can start teaching your child everything from their numbers, their alphabets and so on. Children are literally like human sponges and they absorb everything your give to them. From the womb they're listening and trying to make sense of things.
As your child grows, they will mimic what you do and say. You should never think that it's too soon to start teaching your child the basics and then building from that. This article will illustrate how mundane daily activities can be turned into vital lessons that will help further your child's mental growth.

Most physicians will encourage you to talk to your child while they are still in the womb. This is great advice and should be a common practice from day 1. Yes, they are babies when they are born, but they are growing human beings that are stimulated by social interaction. As you dress your baby, talk to them abut what you're doing "okay, give me your arms" while touching their arms, "let's put your socks on your feet" while playing with their feet, "lets count your fingers" as you slowly count each finger; these are all simple ways to teach your baby his/her body parts. Before your know it, by the time she's a year old, she'll be saying "feet, arms, fingers" and you won't have to wonder where she's getting these lessons. Even if it doesn't seem so, children are listening and learning everyday based on what you do and say. It is also important to note that "baby talk" will encourage "baby talk". If you do not want your toddler to speak like a "baby", talk to them as you would any other person.
As your child gets a little older, continue to speak to them and by the time they're a year and a half, they will start repeating everything you say, this is just part of the learning process. Make them feel involved in various activities, "okay, let's go brush our teeth. Where's your brush? Can you say paste?" This act of constantly encouraging them to speak and identify objects is a great way for them to learn and will increase their curiosity. Even when you are doing something out of the ordinary, like buying moving company insurance, say something to them like "Mommy is going to call the movers ". They may not completely understand, trust that they are taking mental notes.
Music is another effective vehicle for learning. Singing the numbers and alphabets will help them catch on more quickly. Before you know it, you're child will be at the head of the class and then you can privately tap yourself on the back.
